  • Red inflammation on fish

    Hi Guys,

I have a turqouise blue that has this red inflammation.... This seems to be spreading on to other fish.. I am not sure what this is... It seems to affect the central part of the fish and behind the fins.
I think this might be lymphocitus but I might be wrong..
This is a fairly old picture.. maybe a two or three mos old.. this sore has grown quite a bit.. I can try posting a recent picture if needed..
Can someone please provide some help with this?

    Thx,

Doesn't look like lymphocystis...and it's not common on rainbows anyway.
    Could be an aeromonas infection...

Is aeromonas infection contagious? Is it lethal? How do I go about treating it? This seems to be spreading onto my Bosemani's, Trifasciata's, and Wanamensis... it doesn't seem to be affecting my harlequins, congos, or Blue Rams.

      Thx,

Furan 2 from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals treats it...which is Nitrofurazone and Furazolidone. Rainbows do seem pretty susceptible...just use that stuff and it should help...it's a common med...just don't expect the sores to go away overnight...

Guys, why isn't velvet a possible diagnosis?
Trogdor was a man. Or maybe he was a dragon man. Or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still TROGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!

So I do have Tetracycline on hand... Would this be best or should I buy Furan 2?

Also to OrandaMan's question.. is this possibly velvet?

I have a planted tank aquarium... and am fixing to switch my 125 out with a 210Gallon.. wanted to treat all these fish in the smaller tank before I go to the bigger one...

Would any of these meds kill my plants or bio?

Marauder you said not to expect the sores to go away overnight... After the recommended dosage and days.. Should I move to the bigger tank or wait till they are completely healed..?

Sorry for so many questions guys.... the only thing that I have previously dealt with has been a fungus outbreak that was easily cured...

Speaking of fungus outbreak... one of the websites I read about Aeromonas... He recommends to treat with anti-fungul simultaneously.. as open wounds after being treated for aeromonas lead to a fungus problem on these fish?

I was going to recomend the FURAN-2 as well. That is some really good stuff.

I got a lot of aquariums so I buy in bulk. I got the huge 850g bottle of it from Dr.Foster and Smith.

So is velvet contagious? What do I do about my other fish that are not infected yet? Is it possible that the others are already infected and haven't shown signs yet? Do I qurantine the whole tank and wash my filter, aquasoil, plants etc?

i say as of right now, pull out the fish who show signs and treat them....i dont know as far as treating the main tank so wait till someone else who knows more about this disease to chip in....but take out the effected fish now

                            Thx

Velvet is a consideration, I think, because of how fast it's spreading.

I would say to go ahead and treat the whole tank. It's definitely infected. Remove any and all invertibrates before you do. Plants and such should be okay. However, if your filter uses carbon, remove that, as well. Leave the filter media, but the carbon should not be left to absorb the medicine.

As far as what you treat it with, I know of some things, but someone else will know what's best, so I'll wait for that.
