Neosporin does work. I've used it on my discus. Since it has a petroleum jelly base it stays on pretty well. I'd reapplied it daily.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

the problem is the stress caused to the fish. you can buy fish anesthetic that you pour in the water. Really though, the way I have had luck is using melafix and pimamix, add aloe vera to the water, and change 25 to 35 percent every other day. also fish lose salt through their wounds, so adding a little salt will help.
