  • fish lost bouyancy?

The other day, I spotted a Von Rio desperately trying to keep itself up. I'm talking it was constantly swimming to keep from falling to the substrate. His attempt was keeping his body slanted in a way that its head was pointing up. I added salt and Stress Coat, but a few hours later, found it dead. No other fish has show the symptoms.

    What happened?
Trogdor was a man. Or maybe he was a dragon man. Or maybe he was just a dragon. But he was still TROGDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR!

You know, fish are great. I love my fish. But what I really want is a monkey.

There can be a number of reasons for swim bladder problems. The main ones I have seen are either infection or lack of oxygen messed up their orientation.

Whatever happened, I've been keeping a sharp(er) eye on the rest of the tank's population and there doesn't seem to be any oxygen related distress or (knock on wood) signs of infection.

              Thanks for your help, guys.

a/cwizard: what is the pea trick? Are there other things I could have done to perhaps help him make it? Though I hate the idea of the little guy living on the bottom of the tank.

Get some frozen peas and thaw them out.I took the skin off so it wasnt so tough and feed it to the sick fish or just mash it up small enough for it to eat.Kinda strange but works.
