i just put him in to a comunity tank with 1 gramy,3 red eye tetra,1 zebra daino and 1 cherry barb.

Sorry, I can't tell you just by that information. Can you get a picture? Does he keep trying to swim up, but fall back down?

when he goes up gets some air then darts down

they dont like to swim like that u need to put a plant or something towards the top so they can have something to rest on

Whysteria is a good plant.

Sounds to me like someone is picking on him when he floats near the surface and I would bet that it's the barb. But it cuould be that all the strange fish scare him and he's not ready for fast movers yet. If his fins are torn, remove him, it they are OK give him a few days to adjust & and a few plants to hid in.
