Mzungu;434387]Like Brian said, it really looks like a substrate issue... Was the sand some sort of EcoComplete or other that you're not supposed to rinse before putting in the tank? Like, did it have "bacteria" in it, like some are labelled to have?

No...was just the "estes" black sand

You said you rinsed it, though...

Rinsed it, and soaked it in a bucket, then placed it in the tank cycled for 2-3 weeks with pre-cycled water.

What other media do you have in your filters? Any filter floss or fine filter pads?

The filter pads are the ones that came with the canister I bought at the auction.

I had a similar problem with my eheim 2217. try these three things

        1) stop "futzing" with the 2217. The more I fiddle with mine, the worse it does.
        2) check the circulation (intake and outake pipe location / direction).
        3) consider a skimmer. did wonders for me.

Been doing one every other day of 50% or more. Clears it up for the day, then back to the clouds.

Got to go the Aquatech next week...no other store around me has anything as far as filter media.

Hopefully AT will have purigen, cause I really don't know what else to do...this tank has me MAJORLY stumped. In all my years of having tanks and breeding fish, I have Never had one do this...and I have used this substrate many times...even have some of the same batch/bag in a 10gal with NO cloudy problem. So it leaves me to think that the tank is just cursed with haze....

I just recently had to clear up a tank that I set up at the house for QT. It has AquaSoil, which is old/used, so we rinsed it. Which, of course, sent up a cloud of crazy haze. Anyways, for Halloween we bought some of that craft stuffing/batting stuff, and I used that in the filter on this tank. It worked great. I know others use this stuff, too, and it's basically the same thing as "filter floss." So, if you can, run to Walmart or the nearest Craft Store and pick up some of that to try.

Thanks MB! You are such a great thinker!
I can definately make a short (22miles)) drive to walmart! Prolly today. I got a bunch of boxes I am packing this morning, and I can mail them out, and then be on my way. Thank you MB for such a great idea, I never thought of that...it really is the same type of material!

This would be my suggestion as well. Back in the day penn plax and other mfgs made a small plastic air-driven filter that sat inside the tank on the bottom...still one of the best filter designs ever, IMO... the inside of the filter was filled with floss and kept the tank sparkling.

Some of that craft product is cotton and not polyester fiber. I would be reluctant to use cotton in this application. There are plenty people on here that use it though.
