had a little accident last night.

well, yesterday when i was doing a wc on my 65g i overflowed it by porbably 4g

thats what i get for multitasking.

anywho, me and my bro moved the tank from the floor to my dresser and i guess the strain of moving it with ~10g of water and 50lbs of sand and alot of driftwood caused one of the small pieces of glass siliconed over the drilled holes in the tank to crack

so it now has a slow but steady dripping leak where the crack is

anywho, im draining it now and need some quick answers to my ?'s, as i have the 2x pikes, pacu, and p-bass that were in there in with my geos.
and i would like that to not stay that way long.

i need to know, can i silicone over the crack both inside and out and let it dry for like 24 hours and will that hold longterm?

i need a quick fix asap!

i cant afford to go out and buy another tank right now.

btw, the tank is a 48x18x18 65g.

quick fix....silicone a piece of lexan or plexiglass over the crack on the inside.... I would not trust just a bead of silicone over the crack itself....

as an afterthought.....I would not trust a tank with a crack in it for very long...I would replace it as soon as possible...

I got that tall 35 gallon tank in the garage, that just needs to be resealed on the bottom edge....you can take that one and reseal it and use it for a temp tank....the bottom seal has already been removed (by me) and just needs to be cleaned and have a new bead of silicone replaced.

Remove the glass, and put new glass, or get a bulkhead and a cap

you could divide the temporary holding tank with a piece of light difffuser plastic.

I have siliconed over cracks on the bottom of 12" deep tanks and continue to use them. An 18" deep tank would more than likely hold with just silicone, but you have to tear it down, dry it and clean it or the patch will fail. If you're going to do that much work, you might as well remove the old piece of glass and replace it with a thicker one.

I've got a 30g long that I'm using as a fry tank. It has a pretty significant crack (about 6 or 7 inches) that I siliconed inside and outside so it would hold water. It's held now for about 3 months. I put it on thick and ugly though.

well, i appriciate all the comments, but my bro HOOKED ME UP!
he gave me his AGA 75g black trim tank thats like brand new and just needs a cleaning
i am just going to give him the 65g for a reptile tank.

i am going to clean it, and add all the established stuff back to the tank, and fill it and whalla.

i dont trust this tank, its been problem after problem the last couple days, and i dont feel like doing this and going through this again.
