  • City of Houston water

If you use City of Houston tap becareful. I have two wilds in a QT tank that I recently got that I did a WC last night. I was to lazy to run through my carbon filter. I havent been the last several WC so figured no harm. So I just dosed 2x the recommended amount of Amquel. Woke up this morning to them lying on their side gasping. Did a WC this morning so we will see what happens.

Amquel killed off the O2 because there is a high load of Chloramines.. Add extra water surface movement. Get some more O2 into the tank

    What fish do Jesper have
180 WC T. Moorii Chilambo +1 Petro trewavasae.

Brian, were they lying on their side on the bottom of the tank? Or swimming sideways at the top?

This same thing happened to me not to long ago with ammonia. I did a WC and in less than an hour I lost two fish, including my Ornate Bichir. I've been using Prime

Lying on their side on the bottom. I did the WC and lowered the water height a bit so that the water falling from the HOB creates more turbulance. Also dropped an airstone but its not powerful enough for this size tank. All is hoping they pull through didnt have enough time before work to do much else. Thinking about it now I should have thrown my koralia 4 in there as well.

I would think that if they're lacking O2 they would be at the surface rather than at the bottom, right?

I am going to agree with the two above... surface.. O2 and bottom usually ammonia or other chemical.

I figure ammonia thats why I did the water change and dumped a bunch of amquel. Praying they make it. Just wanted to let everyone know to be careful since the City must be doing something.

Rule of thumb! The City of Houston is notorious for dumping chemicals in the water when there is 30% or greater chance of rain. Always use your bottle.

+1, I'm glad I got my carbon bottle. I changed water yesterday and all is fine with my fish.

These were in a QT tank alone.
