ok simple question, How long do you leave your lights on and is your tank close to a window?

Just remember that algae doesn't really hurt anything. And, like nacra99 said, you're always going to have algae. It's not a big deal at all. But as the tank matures you'll see less and less of it if you keep up with your maintenance routine.

Like you first said, it's not an "omg help me kinda thing."

Also, I second what Enin said. If you do plan to get a bristlenose or three, quarantine them first! If you just throw them in your tank, you could end up with much bigger problems than just some algae. :)

i carry tropheus in the tank am i able to put bristle noses in there?
and i know algae is always gonna be there but where it is currently is an eyesore lol

Nguyener - Bristlenose are just fine with Trophs. I've got BN in all my troph tanks.

If your problem is just the "bad look" of the diatom, 1 or 2 plecos must be your best friend.

No I had the same algea on my holey rock when my lights would run for ten hours an day I cut them down to six hours a day with no plecos and the trophs will took care of some of it and in three to four days the algea was under control. think about it fish do not need light to live you want light so they look beautifull to you there will be enough natural light coming in from the window during the middle of the day run the lights for three hours in the morning when your getting ready for work shut them off all day till you get home and then turn them back on fo three or so hours that is what I did and it fixed the problem quickly

where can i buy bristlenose plecos? i dont think they sell them at petsmart or petco...
or can i just buy a common pleco?
