Day 9 Oscar Treatment

Ok, 50% waterchange yesterday and today. Replaced carbon filter and will leave her alone except for the Vitamin C in her food for a week.
I completed the full 4 doses of furan and full 2 doses of general cure.
Can't tell any significant change but her temperament is typical Oscar! She has rearranged the rock and heater and air stone in the hospital tank! She is still eating.
I guess time is my healer now. I don't know what else to do.

It definitely doesn't look as raw and irritated anymore...to me, anyway.

Here are some of my thoughts. All "maybe's", of course.

Maybe it's a tumor or a virus, and had a secondary bacterial infection (which made it look all raw and painful), and explains the partial improvement using the meds. If it's a tumor, you probably won't see much improvement, BUT if it's a virus, using the Vitamin C will help her natural immune system kick in and reduce it.

I'm so glad she's at least feeling better!

Thanks! I will continue with the vitamin C. Do you think I should redose all of the meds again? I was going to give her a week and then maybe redose. I don't know what to do with her! LOL! If she were a dog I would just take her to the vet, have the tumor removed and stitch her up!

I don't think you should redose the meds. I DO think you should soak her food in Vitamin C for a few weeks, and possibly for the rest of her life.

Like imagirlgeek said, the two most plausible diagnoses are a tumor or something viral. With those, there's not much you can do except provide clean water and a good supply of vitamin-enriched food.

Thanks! No one from Moster Fish Keepers every responded. I thought that was strange. If she didn't have that tumor you wouldn't know anything was wrong with her!
How long should I leave her in quarantine?

I just re checked my thread on the Monster site, here is what three seperate posts said:
1. I suggest holding off the other meds please otherwise you risk killing the fish quicker than its health issue can. I don't think that is fungus. Fungal infections should not looked anything like that. I do suspect however this seems to be tumor. Could you please get bigger close up shots of the tumor area? Tumor can be either benign or cancerous. There's no way to tell exactly unless you have a nearby fish vet to do that for you. If you want to see a fish vet, I'd give them a call first before consulting them personally as they might charge you just for consult fees alone.

2. Keep the lights off, 1Tbs to every 10gal. with some Epsom salt, and bump that temp 84ish - loose the meds... "

3. this does not look like an infection of any kind. If it is a cancer, salt is not going to do anything for it. It could just be a benign lesion though
