I just got home and noticed a leleupi with stuff coming out of a gill. It was a long tape looking string but half broke off when he swam away while I was trying to look at it. It looks like there is some shredded stuff right at the gill and then this thing that looks like a strip of teflon tape. He is a tank with a bunch of juvie trophs. Could one of them ripped his gill out?

I apologize for the poor quality of the pics. If better ones are needed let me know. I'm going to pull him out and separate him.135 gal Fahaka Puffer

Now that's strange...
What are you feeding the tank?
I'm racking my brain here, but I'm coming up with nothing. My first thought was tapeworms, but those don't usually come out of the gills, as far as I know.
What's the history of the leleupi? How long have you had him?
My other thought is that maybe he tried to eat something and instead of ingesting it, he expelled it out of his gills, but it's stuck. I've had that happen a couple times with some killies I had.
I'll keep thinking. Keep us updated, please."Millennium hand and shrimp!"

I'm feeding NLS Grow 2 -3 times a day and alternate with spirulina flakes now and then. I've had him for several months but I don't remember exactly when I got them. I tried to get him out last night but couldn't catch him. This morning he is on the bottom and not moving much so I'll pull him out now. I did notice some aggression between the leleupis as I was trying to catch him and also some of them are on the thin side. Maybe they are having a hard time competing with the trophs when its feeding time? I forgot to mention I also have a petro juvie in there as well but nobody is over 3 inches I don't think.135 gal Fahaka Puffer

Sorry I forgot about this thread. The only thing I noticed when I pulled him out of the tank was that there was a hole where his anus should have been.135 gal Fahaka Puffer
