1)Which fish have what symptoms:
2 Severums that I just put in the tank about 2 weeks ago are covered in white spots, 1 Mbamba seems to be scratching on rocks
2)What medications have been tried:
I put in Mardel Coppersafe a few days ago
3)When they were introduced to the tank, did fish from where they came from have symptoms:
No symptoms....looked clean. In a tank with about a dozen other severums.
4)Numbers, size, and types of fish in your tank:
2-4" Gold Severums
1-5" Mbamba
3-3" to 4" German Red Peacocks
2-Pictus Cats...3"
5)What, how much, and how often you feed:
2x daily Morning/Night...Cichlid Flakes, LFS Brand of small sinking pellets, Bloodworms or shrimp once or twice a week, I usually fast them for one day a week
6)How much water you change and how often:
Weekly....25% or so.
Tell as much as you know about the tank and equipment:
I bought the equipment off CL.....Has been running for at least 4 months. 55 gallons with a Fluval 405.
It was originally for plants and plants only....natural sand and Fluorite substrate. Plants seem to not do well, so I decided to add fish from one of the other tanks + a few new ones I have been wanting.
I put a heater back in it and set it for 80 a couple of days ago,.....checked this morning to see that it has the temp up to about 88. I turned it down just a little and will watch it more closely.....my mistake.
The test from this morning shows:
pH at 7.6 (usual)
Ammon. Looks like 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates light color...< 5
The fish have all remained very active, they eat well. The spots have gotten worse on the Severums.....even kind of flowing white worms off of them now.
Nothing noticable on the others.
Can anyone identify this for me and give suggestions what to do? I put in the Coppersafe a couple of days ago. It seems that some do not like it very much...however, I have no experience with it and was maybe just in panic mode (I have to work on that). The bottle was given to me.
So far this year (since I started with the aquariums and ponds) I have not seen anything like this.
