Ok, so i have a 75 gal i set up about 3 months ago, i was going to go with a regular hanging filter but ended up getting an used jebo ( yea i know a lot of ppl don't trust/like them but it has worked good)... well i got it from some guy that used to own an aquarium store and he said i only needed to change the carbon every 6 months and maybe clean it every 2... well i have cleaned it twice and done regular water changes, the last water change was thanksgiving night and i changed 15 gallons, but today i had 4 or 6 healthy fish die so i'm wondering if any one has an idea of what it could be, and how often should i service/change the filter... i will be checking the water tomorrow, but the only other thing i'm guessing is that today we didnt turn on the heather and the temperature dropped down to 78 in the tank..... i've never had a problem before in this aquarium

Sounds like bloat. I'm going thru it with some of my tanks now. It's probably temperature related. Heat the hospital tank to 80 degrees. You will need to treat the fish with clout or metro and epsom salt(1 cup per 50gal). Were the fish eating normal yesterday?200

surface aggitation??? do u mean just stir the water?
I'll take the big 3 to be tested tomorow or se if i buy testing supplies.. i left the filter runing and 2 dead fish, the live ones are in a stable 10 gallon for now
i guess temp is accurate
4... i had fryeri, demasoni, txtilis, and some simos i got from you... by the way i'm gona have to buy some more if you still have them, i didnt really like em at first but now i love them,
I use tetra aqua safe to dechlorinate, and i always let it sit in the bucket and mix with the salt for a few mins before adding it to the tank
I appreciate the help

Did they eat normal yesterday or the day before. did you notice a lot of extra food floating around. They probably have bloat. It's lesson #1 on these Africans. yea simo's are addicting. Plenty more and you know they are very CHEAP.200

How many fish are left? This is something we all go thru when you first get in the hobby. Get some epsom salt and metro-clout tomorrow. Treat them in the morning or by the evening it could be alot worse. good Luck!200

Question ? When you clean the filter ....are you cleaning everything including the bio-media in clean tap water ? Or are you cleaning the filter with water from the tank ? If you are using fresh tap water then you are probably killing the "beneficial bacteria" in your filter . In that case the Ammonia is probably high and that could kill your fish . Also, this will send your tank into another cycling .
