An open mouth on a dead fish is commonly a sign of oxygen deficiency

      + 1 on what Gene D said.

When you lose an entire tank of fish and all mouths are open, it's definitely hypoxia (lack of oxygen), but when you lose a single fish, there's a chance that it just died with it's mouth open. Or it could have had a problem with it's gills. If the other fish are behaving normally, I wouldn't worry about an oxygen problem. But if the rest of the tank is gasping or staying near the surface, you'll want to add some powerheads or air stones or something to agitate the water surface.
