So my wife did water changes yesterday, and something happened. I checked the 55G African tank an hour ago, and almost all of the smaller fish were dead. The larger ones were acting weird, gasping. She swears she dosed the water with Amquel. I dosed it with Prime, and now they seem OK. There were a few dead peacock fry in a 20G tank. Dosed that with Prime as well, so we'll see. Odd thing is that she also did water changes on a 135G and a 40G, and no issues there. Makes me think she forgot to dose the first two tanks, although she swears she did.

I checked the water parameters, and they were perfect.

Any thoughts? Could my MUD have changed something in the water that would cause this? But if they did, I would have expected problems in all the tanks.

I have forgot to add prime to my water after doing multiple tank water changes at the same time in the past and have lost some fish because of this. Probably just an honest mistake.

I'm leaning towards that myself. Touchy subject 'cause I normally don't let her touch the tanks, but I made an exception this time. Good thing she didn't get close to some of the more rare fish...

        That's a tought one.

It's also why i still do old school water changes. I run buckets of water treat it and let it sit for 24+ hours before making a water change.

I tried the python thing at one time and stopped after a bit.

I had something similar happen to me about 4 weeks ago....I lost just about every small fish in my frontosa tank.....I have a mix of MEDIUM sized frontosa with other medium size fish, a few large clown fish, and then I had a mix of about 20 "small" fish, bout an inch and a half or bigger, mostly brevis, daffodils, and brichadi......

I did a water change about 9pm, and the next day, I found all my smaller fish dead.....I know I treated the water, I use Stress Coat + to remove the bad stuff....but there must of been something extra in the water that day...???

I haven't drank tap water in years.....

I've been doing it with a Python for 15 years and have never had anything like this happen. I'm scratching my head.

+1 I drain 90 percent of the water in 4 tanks at a time with a Python and fill them up straight from the outside water hose. I do my seven tanks on the same day and takes me about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. Letting water age would not be practical for me.

Amquel will not nuetralize ammonia. Switch to Amquel plus for the ammonia. Better yet switch to Prime or Safe.

                    I believe mine is FB#4.

I should have been more specific, it actually is Amquel+. I guess I got lazy in terms of what I was calling it.

+1 on using Prime. Great product.

I know the large multiple tank systems can't do what I'm doing.
