ducklips.jpgdo angelfish get duck lips? i have about 7 other fish in the same 90 gal tank, I dont think its eviromental since none of the others have lips like that its only developed in the last 2 weeks, the fish store said it was fungus and to treat with binox. Nothing has changed , could it be genetic? I feed flake food and somtimes beefheart . any ideas ???

I can't tell for sure from the picture, but I'm betting it's lip fibroma. And you are right, it's not environmental, IF this is what it is. I had some angels that got lip fibroma and the growths gradually increased in size until they were just a little smaller than a pea. The angels were fine until then and at that point I think they had a hard time getting food. But they had very long lives.
From what I've read, this is a virus, and angels are very susceptible to it. I have also read that it's a genetic issue and is due to the amount of inbreeding. I don't think anyone is absolutely sure what causes it to occur so often in angels, but it is definitely noticed and documented.
Since it's a virus, there is no medication to make it go away. Just keep the water quality up, and stress down. Hope this helps!Our Fishhouse
