I'm hoping to get some help. I bought a couple of fish (angel rams) on Sept. 2. Impatiently, I added them to my tank. After I did, I noticed white spots on the tip of the dorsel fin of one of them. I, immediately, took them out of the tank and isolated them. I started treating both tanks. I used a Tetra product called Lifeguard for five consecutive days. I, also, increased the temperature on the isolation tank for a couple of days. It's now been 10 days. The white spots are still visible on the one fish. There are no new spots. The other fish shows no signs. Could this maybe not be ich? When I look at it with a magnifying glass, the spots definately look as though they are sitting on his fins, as opposed to being part of his coloring. Both fish are very shy, they don't even interact with each other. I don't think they are very happy. I'm worried about them, but why are the spots still there? What can I do next?

BTW, when I tried to return them to the store where I bought them, I was told that they didn't have a return policy.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

It's a little hard to tell from the pic, but it does look like ich. However, that is pretty strange that it is just lingering, given the amount of time you've had it (if it's ich). Are the fish flashing (rubbing themselves against items in the aquarium)? Ich multiplies really fast, so usually the fish will become covered in it in just a few days.

There's a product called Ich Attack by Kordon. If you can get ahold of some of that, I swear by it. It's organic, so it doesn't do damage to the good bacteria and isn't hard on the fish. It also treats fungus. You don't have to do water changes between treatments either (but if you have ich, you want to do water changes as often as you can to remove the ich as it falls off the fish). I've saved a lot of fish using that stuff.

I guess my point is, if you can get some Ich Attack, it won't hurt anything to treat the tank with it.

thanks for the advice. no, they are not flashing. someone else suggested, after looking at them, that it could be finrot. however, the one with the spots has no fin problems, but, the other one has no spots, but has tattered fins. who knows? I've done a fifty percent water change today and will wait a couple of days and treat for finrot with maracyn two. It will also cover some other bacterial diseases. I hope that I can save them. btw, they seem to be happier after the water change. thanks, again. I'll look for some Ich Attack to keep around. any suggestions on where to find it?

If you are still looking for some Ich Attack, I think I saw some at Petsmart.
