  • white goo spots on neon tetra

one of my tetras have developed 2 spots of white goo looking substance on its body near its tail. its eyes also look a little cloudy. it seems to be acting normally. none of the other fish seem to be affected. ive been googling for the last 2 hours and didnt see anything apparently similar in the first 10 pages of this forum. im fairly certain its not ich as the spots are much too large. it doesnt sound like columnuswhatever. any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated. please note that any treatment would need to take into account my shrimp. thanks in advance! info and pics below

    about ~5 months ago

Extremely nice write up and leaves only answers left!

you have what looks to be fungus or a bacterial infection but not a bad one. Melafix/ Primafix would be the best option right now but if you want to get into some more harsh methods/meds then jungle parasite or fungus right would be the easiest med to find and would work the best.

Keep the meds on the light side due to the inverts but in my experience the RCS can withstand a bit of medication.

ill head to the lfs tomorrow and look for that. will it effect my shrimp? i understand theyre very sensitive to certain things (copper i think?). also ive read somewhere that when youre medicating your tank you should remove the carbon from the filter. any truth to that? im somewhat new to the hobby, specifically planted tanks.

edit: you answered my main question before i could finish typing it!

IMO, copper should never be used in any tank since it lingers. Not many meds will include copper without a disclaimer stating so. There are a few meds that aren't as harsh and will work great. Worse comes to worse, dose aquarium salt and couple water changes.

With the carbon, yes its best to remove it and honestly I never use it since its counter productive past its life cycle. I prefer none or seachem purigen instead.

You should be able to use the maracyn in your tank and that one has antibiotic

The cloudy eye I've only seen in conjunction with poor water quality, couple nice water changes with known good water source and some aquarium salt should help aid that back to normal
