    Hello,

I have 2 Eyespot Gouramis (labeled burmese choc gourami) that I bought from Fish Gallery a little over a week ago. They started developing some white, non-fuzzy patches on their body. The apisto that they share the tank with sometimes tries to swipe at them; I don't think this is what is causing the patches, though it is very possible.

The fish seem to act normal, eat normally, and aren't hiding. Anyone have any idea what it could be? The first one had it, then the second one started to get it too. Is this curable? Should I take them out? Euthanize them? I don't really have a Q-tank anymore.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Forgot to mention water parameters

    Temp 77
    ph 7.0
    gh - 7

I try to keep my nitrates at around 20 ppm.
I used to change my water every week, but just switched to a 2 week 50% water change schedule. There is very little information online about this fish, but I keep my water pretty clean!

It sounds like they're injured. Can you add some aquarium salt to the tank? I'd do that first before anything else, and if you'd like, you can treat with Pimafix or Melafix too (very safe and won't kill your filter bacteria). They should noticeably begin healing within 48 hours of adding the salt.

Thanks for the help, added melafix, so hopefully that solves the problem. Not sure if I am able to add salt to planted tanks though?

salt in a planted tank isnt a good idea for most plant types. i know how it is tho, when i get a Q tank i usually ended up setting it up full time lol.

My plants did fine with salt when I was treating ich. The only one that suffered was my Christmas moss, but I also had the lights off for almost a week straight. The crypts, java fern, and wisteria did just fine.

So the worse looking one disappeared into the bellies of ravenous amano shrimp, that's my guess anyway.. on the bright side that means there is room for something new!

I wouldn't add anything new for at least a week. 14 days would be safer to make sure whatever it is has run its course in the tank. Best case... they are injured. Worst case... illness. My plants love a bit of salt. All of my tanks get a dose of aquarium salt from time to time. With planted tanks, just be sure the salt isn't sitting directly on a leaf.

Try and ask FishGallery, they had a similar problem with their knight gobies they recently brought in.

I feel so bad for my little fishy, he used to be so happy floating around with his buddy, now he's all alone. I guess I should go to FG and grab the rest..
