1)Which fish have what symptoms:
I have a sick male betta. Its stomach has become grossly distended. There is no pine cone effect on the scales—they have remained smooth. I have had the fish for about 7 months. It started off with a slight distention and has gotten worse. I have not noticed any white feces. In fact I have not noted any feces. I’ve only been giving the fish a close inspection about twice a day. The fish has become positively buoyant. Still has a slight appetite. I have misplaced my camera ATM. Iwill post a picture if I find it.
Med resistant dropsy? Constipated? Internal parasites? Bloat? Betta blimp blight?
2)What medications have been tried:
Jungle brand Anti-Parasite medicated Fish Food (praziquantel) once a day for 12 days (so far).
Maracyn-Two (Minocycline) once a day for 6 days (so far).
The symptom has gradually gotten worse.
3)When they were introduced to the tank, did fish from where they came from have symptoms:
No. Male bettas—one fish per tub.
4)Numbers, size, and types of fish in your tank:
Total 2 mature male bettas, 2 medium sized mystery snails. The other livestock has no apparent symptoms. I've had the other fish for about 7 months as well. Both fish were quarantined
for over 5 weeks when purchased.
5)What, how much, and how often you feed:
Once a day. Omega One betta buffet flakes. As much as they will consume in 3-5 mins. I used to try 3-4 other dry and frozen foods, but those flakes are the only stuff they really eat much of. About once every 3 days small pieces of algal wafers for the snails--the bettas sometimes pick at them a bit.
6)How much water you change and how often:
80% once a week.
