  • Mag pump failure?

    Hey boxers,

I bought a used Mag 7 pump for my sump and used it about 2 weeks. This morning, I unplugged it to do some maintenance, and now it won't come back on. I took it apart and there is nothing blocking the impeller. I waited a couple hours to let it cool down (just in case) and plugged it in and still it isn't turning on. What gives? Is this busted / is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Thanks everyone,
    -Cpirnie3

Make sure that the plug is clean perhaps?

Does the plug end on the pump look bad? Is there anything running on that outlet at all. Know it shows odd but have you given it a good smack. Pumps will lock up occasionally.

Also make sure that the impeller shaft ends are seated properly in the rubber bushings. Sometimes the bushings get crimped and out of shape enough to create resistance on the impeller

Pump was working before you took it apart.

It's a wild guess but you most likely didn't put it back together right.

I have had more than one mag drive pump that needed a smack to get going bad thing is your probably gonna have to smack it every time you have a power failure or it won't come back on

my rio 1700 on my saltwater tanks sump needs good smack after every water change. Works perfectly fine but, it cracks me up because I think to myself "get back to work b*****"
