just be aware that all of us...and i mean all of us carry "staph" on the outside of our bodies....and if you have a cut, or open wound that can act as a vector in the chain of infection anyone can become infected with an inner bacteria that's taken into the body from outside the skin....so it's not just in the tanks that you can get really bad wounds and infections ....just be aware and "wash"....

There is always going to be risks in this world so i dont think you can get to overwhelmed over this but I do stress that we all should take a few precautions to limit the possibility. I know I will start scrubbing my hands and arms after each time I mess with my fish.  8O

Hrm...  And just yesterday I went to a dermatologist to have this 'thing' cut off the back of my hand.  It was a scaley patch, bout the diameter of a pencil eraser that would occasionally just itch madly.  I've shaved it off with a blade more than once in the past but it always returned, even when I shaved it down once to where it bled just a little.  I had thought that might be deep enough to get it to actually heal and go away.

Just looking at it yesterday, the doc said 'skin cancer', but after reading that article, who knows?  Almost makes me wish I'd paid the extra to send it off for a biopsy.   :?  Oh well, now I'll never know.

Where oh where can I find some of those rubber gloves that go up to your freaking shoulder. I'm a nursing mom and the last think I need is something going awry that I can pass to my kid.

And what kinda soap do you use to wash up? I'm thinking of the LAVA that my grandad used to use after working on cars...

i just use regular anti-bacterial soap and some germ-x. just keep open wounds way from the water.

I keep a bottle of germ-x around for when I play in the water but any anti-bacterial soap is good.

Seriously, where can I get those gloves. I have a skin condition on my hands.  I won't go into it lets just say getting those gloves is a necsessity for me to continue

I actually have those gloves and they are great. Very thick and come all the way up my arm with room to spare. I mostly use them after cleaning house when I need to stick my hand in the tank. I guess I should be using them more often after reading that article.

I've almost always got little cuts or ripped out hangnails or split cuticles on my hands and I havnt worried about it untill now...
