  • Recycled Tank?

Ok from what I have read on other threads my tank recycled thanks to my OCD idiot a$$....
So as of two weeks ago I had an ammonia spike. Did my water change and now I think I'm in the clear but need yalls advice. I checked water this morning and I have 0ammonia, 10ppm nitrate, and 10ppm nitrite. So has my tank recycled now and all I need to do is a large water change? If so what amount of water change is recommended?

I'll be doing that 70% change tomorrow! Sometimes I wish I had an easier way to fill the tank back without lugging 5 gal buckets haha. I always put the bacteria from the bottle mixed in with the water change. I assume there is no wrong way to do that?.?.? I put the dechlorination from bottle into the 5 gal bucket, then add water and put the bacteria in when bucket is about 50% full. I also add a little freshwater aquarium salt to the bucket as its filling up. Then lug it to the aquarium and pore it in. Love my 90 gal tank but damn sometimes I wish it was 10 gallons haha.

Bacteria in a bottle? Are you referring to a product or are you just getting old tank water and putting it in a bottle? Is there a reason you're adding bacteria and aquarium salt for each of your water changes?

              Recycled Tank?

Are there any fish in the tank? If there's fish, you can stop adding the bacteria in a bottle. Really that stuff is only meant for brand new tanks. Why add salt? There's no need for it. If you don't have fish in the tank, it's time to add about 10. Watch your levels, and keep up the water changes.

Yea the actual good bacteria that is sold in the bottle. I wasn't using it until I screwed up my biological filter. Then I was aadding it trying so possibly my fish wouldn't die. I had an ammonia spike already and now the ammonia is back to 0 and my nitrates and nitrites are up to 10 ppm. So when I do the 70% water change today, should I add more of the bottled bacteria or just let my established bacteria do their job?

I do have fish. Right now I only lost 3 fish total. I now have 2 Acei, 2 Red Zebra, 1 Polychromis, 2 Clown Loaches, 1 Rainbow Shark, and 1 Rubber Lip Pleco. Had been adding lots of ghost shrimp but they finally have been eaten. There for a few weeks it was cool to see the shrimp although I knew that wouldn't last much longer.

I add the freahwater salt because I used it before and never had any issues and had happy fish. It says that the salt helps their gills and whatnot. Thought a lot of people used it.

I wouldn't add anymore to the tank. It's not needed. Let the established bacteria and fish do the job. Just keep up the water changes. What are you using as far as a declorinator?

Hopefully the water change will help a lot. I'm using API Tap Water Conditioner
