I've had a recent algae outbreak and have added olive nerites to combat it but now I have these white things growing on the tank walls. The almost look like little tree trunks but they are all white and have white strings coming from the end.

Anabantoids are effective at eating them, not sure which tank this is in though. I suppose licorice gouramis might be the least worrysome manner to combat them in a shrimp tank, though I might try a different strategy of starving them and only feeding 100% veggies and small WC. what are the parameters of the tank in question? Especially Nitrates, they usually bloom when food is readily availableIn the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

This is in the shrimp tank where I have had an issue with planaria. Water parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 10 nitrates, 7.4 PH, and 80-83 temp. I do WC of 25-50% 2x week, feed every 2-3 days, and dose flourish weekly. Feeding varies between shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and shrimp souffle.29 Gallon SA Tank -- 5 Bleeding Heart Tetras, Mated Pair of Angels, 7 Green Corys, and a Rubberlip Pleco

Try looking into Hydra treatment for shrimp tanks online. They have a few chemicals that are reputed to work, but with Cardinals I might be worried it could have even a minimal effect upon them. Lacking any shrimplets, the adluts should be fine. I might just let it be for now and hope they exhaust whatever food source they are preying upon.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I have a baby albino pleco in my daughters tank maybe an inch and a half long. Would it help if I moved it for a few days?29 Gallon SA Tank -- 5 Bleeding Heart Tetras, Mated Pair of Angels, 7 Green Corys, and a Rubberlip Pleco

Bristlenose will not eat them. Most anabantoids are noted for feasting upon them, but with Cardinals in the tank I would be wary. I have heard mixed results from daily Excel dosing, but everything suggests this needs to be done for a few weeks at least and follow a daily schedule or they will return. Try searching Hydra shrimp tank online and you'll get some good suggestions. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Re: Something growing on tank walls
How many times/wk are you feeding? And how heavily stocked is your tank? I've dealt with hydra when I was a bit over zealous with the food30Long: L134 Leopard Frog Plecos X16, Corydoras Sterbai X9, Endlers X4
