Do you have a hospital tank you can move him to? I brought home a bunch of South American Puffers once that were so covered in ich that they looked like little cotton balls. It was really bad. I used Ich Attack, but I had them all in a 10 gallon hospital tank with no gravel and no decor. I also had a 2nd 10 gallon set up to move them to individually as they each started to heal so they wouldn't get reinfected.

Are you doing water changes? I'm sure you've read all the literature out there about Ich, but it has a really short life cycle. You can't kill it while it's on the fish...you can only kill it once the 'tomont' has dropped off the fish and is free in the water. It's this time when it's multiplying and looking for a new host that it is able to die. If it doesn't find a new host within this stage, it will die. You've got about a 2 - 6 hour window during this time...depending on the temperature.

Ideally, if you could move all the fish to a hospital tank that you could do extreme water changes, and didn't have gravel or decor for the ich to hide in, I think it would be easier to combat. At least, that's how I was able to get all those puffers well. It was a lot of work, and I spent a lot of time treating, changing the water, vacuuming the bottom of the 10 gallon, etc. Repeat. But it worked.

I sure hope you can save your fish. I know it's hard to lose them.

I've been doing nightly 25% changes. I wish I had a hospital tank up and running (I have spare tanks) but no cycled filter to put on it.
