  • Black Beard Algae Treatment

So after getting rid of the hair algae in my fissiden, I encounter another problem. BBA started to infest the tank. I would dose it with H2O2 and pump more CO2 in the tank but nothing is happening. Well, it would die but just come back. Then I realized I have a nerite snail infested with the algae growing all over him and he was spreading it wherever he went. I have 2 amanos but they're not doing crap. I might have to put the snail to sleep.........

Or get a few more nerites to clean up the algae on the snail? Otos are good at cleaning up BBA too.

Have you tryed to clean the snail? I had a mysterry snail that I had to clean algae off its shell. I know narites are small.

There is something else you could do. Feed it to a puffer...

Nerites to clean nerites. I think he's too big for the pea puffers. The pea puffers don't even bother the bigger snails. I guess I can try and manually rub the snail clean but I doubt it'll be effective.

Yes nerites to clean nerites lol. Mine clean each other all the time. I don't have any more algae problems since I've added 2 merited and 2 o cats. I plan to get more nerites just because I love them.

go to fish gallery for some female flag fish they keep my tank under control. Get female though, male can be unpredictable in temperament.

I have 2, I didn't want more cuz I'm afraid they might starve if there isn't enough algae. I don't see them out during the day anymore only when the light is off.

The other nerites and amanos are staying away from him. He is a bit hairy and in need of a shaving. I would like to see your clean up crew try to clean him.

I'd take him out and give him a light scrub and then let my crew at him. I had some short hair algae on some frogbit and my nerites and o cats devoured it. They didn't touch any of the long hair algae though...
