Both cases would tell me it was a tankmate issue. Not sure what else is in the tank, but islation is the best course. Fish can heal gill injuries, but it is a slow process and certainly permanant in nature.
He shares the tank with an oscar and an electric catfish. I hand feed them all , based on the tank behavior I have to say it must have been an attack, I have set up a medicated isolation tank for him he still wont eat, I have tried brine, small krill flakes pellets small feeder fish pieces, I know they can hold out on food a for a little while, but we are already at day 3. Im going to do all I can for him thanks for the support and advice.
