  • Heads up on Xtreme fish

2 of the 5 fish in my tank are from Xtreme, and they are both sick. One internal parasites, one with callamanus (spelling) worms. Make sure you guys check/QT your fish if possible, especially red jewels.... I like the store and owner, but I don't plan on buying anymore fish from them.

Make sure you watch for dead fish when you buy from this store. I walk around and see many dead fish that remain in the tank at their store, but they don't bother remove them.

Dead fish seems almost too common now, I'd say city pets has the least if any usually.

Dead fish in a tank is normal IMO for any fish store. Maybe you came on a shipment day? Extreme gets shipments I believe once a week? I've never had a problem with their fish

+1 I've seen dead fish in ALL fish stores at one point or another. It's not uncommon. If you get a fish right after shipment, you're bound to run into a sick fish. A large amount of my fish were bought from him mainly because of the homie hook up he gives for being a repeat customer! None of my fish died from diesease or illnesses as a result of the store.

Agreed that dead fish is a common problem at LFS, but leaving a fish to rot and being fed on by the tank mate is another issue. Personally, I would not buy a fish from a tank that I can see a dead fish. Just my opinion!

IMO running a fish store is diff from running a few tanks out of your home. So many tanks at a fish store that has to be looked at everyday and sometimes you don't have the time to pay extra attention to all the tanks. Yea you hire workers to do that BUT they're not gonna always do what they're hired to do.

The OP probably just bought some fish that has been from a new shipment. I'm pretty sure the owner of the store will work out a deal with you for the sick fish

If they were a new shipment, they had to be at least a week old. I went there several times looking at fish and various supplies. Agreed on the hook up with multiple visits. Like i said, I like the store, just wont be buying any fish from them. Side note, starting my battle with the callamanus worms today...

Thanks geek, that's pretty much what I'm doing. Going to try it in their NLS before I try in anything frozen. They have been starved, so that should help.
