  • Center brace came unglued. 110g

the plastic trim looks a little bowed but i think its fine, front glass pane looks straight. water level already lowered. from what ive read thick glass doesnt need this brace. no leaking or anything. looking at making a brace right meow. thanks for looking!

Did the brace come unglued or did it break? You should be able to glue it back in if you clean the surfaces really well and clamp it to hold for a day or two. You may want to use a small spacer of some type when you glue it back together. What holds is the silicone to glass bond. If you clamp it to where all the silicone squeezes out then it will be glass to glass and it won't hold.

well nothing sits on it nor did anything fall so either my tank shifted enough to break the seal, or it came unglued. but it looks to be intact.

I would make sure your tank is level still and double check the stand. If all that is good then its probably OK to silicone the brace back in. I've seen a tank with thick glass without a brace. It held water fine but looking down the front pane from the side you could see it bowing. Eventually it will pop but its held for a few years at least. Your tank may be fine without it but its not going to do anything but help if you put it back in.

ok cool thanks, the tank kind of leans forward due to my floor i reckon, guess that needs to be addressed as well.

We had something VERY similar happen to our 210g a while back. Here's the post about it --> http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...Lights-and-All

And post #32 shows a picture of the brace guygeek made for it while we were repairing.

LOL Yeah that would be a good place to start. Use composite door shims to level your stand. The composite won't mold if they get wet. Make sure to shim the stand and not the tank. Shimming the tank puts pressure points on the glass which is bad.

you may want to empty the tank.

                  1. if the brace cam unglue, it means the silicone is to old.
                  2. if the silicone is to old, the rest of the silicone may come unglue.
                  3. if the rest of the silicone comes unglue you will have a mega leaker.

but lets hope that is not the case.

Glad you posted this. About 2 months ago my 70 gallon had the brace come loose on one end and fell in the tank. I took it out and thought it would be fine. Never thought about checking the level or the idea that the "glue" was old. Guess I better check it all out.
