  • Bowfront Brace pulled Apart

The wife and I just got a 72 bowfront RR tank and were getting it all ready to setup. Last week I had her do a test fill after getting the sump all setup. It all looked good so I ordered some rock and picked up a few other things for it this past weekend. Tonight we were filling the tank and heard a little popping but I figured it wasn't an issue. After I had it all filled up and was double checking the temp and the salinity I noticed the plastic brace across the middle had pulled apart from the back wall.
We quickly drained the tank into every container I could grab.
Any ideas on how to fix this?? or if it even can be fixed??

    pic soon.

Here is the pic of the brace on the back side. We had just double checked the level of the tank too. I dont know what happened.

Maybe a strong epoxy... I'd say replace it with glass but it might be hard on a bowfront

I was thinking the same b/c I have a good piece of glass. Problem is how or where to get it cut to the correct size. What kind of epxy do yall use?

Apparently, this happens semi-often ?? I see lots of internet traffic on this issue for bowfronts.

Its a bowfront... you will have a difficult time finding a place to cut glass to a rounded edge to replace it

i say replace the brace instead the glass route, like jacob said you would not find a place to cut the glass to a bow.

It can be done, but a round edge will cost more. I like the epoxy idea, but add reinforcement like a nice piece of plexiglass to bridge the break. That plastic probably got very brittle over time.

I didn't have a brace on my bowfront tank. The previous owner broke it off.

I would buy a new trim. Bow fronts are known leakers and you don't have a brace so it might split open

The 210 I am taking apart. It had an aluminum strip in the brace. I am not going to put it back. Would that work on it Brain?
