  • Frontosa Issue

i could really use your help! I just got back from a 2 week vacation and I noticed a white cottony spot on one of my front's tail fin (I haven't add anything new to the tank so I ruled out ich). I started looking around and another one had a raw looking spot on his tail. A few of them were swimming funny like their tails hurt. I started testing everything and the nitrates were a little high because I hadn't done a water change for 2 weeks and I went and checked the temperature and it was 83!! I immediately opened the canopy and put a fan on them. I also did a 50% water change and dosed the tank with Quick Cure. I woke up the next morning and the temp was down to 78. I started doing some more research on it and the more I read the more it sounded like a fungus so I dosed the tank late yesterday evening with Pimafix by API. When I woke up this morning, the one with the white spot on his tail looked worse! I'm not really sure what to do now. I went ahead and dosed the tank again today with Pimafix.

    Any suggestions??

When was the last time that you cleaned that FX5 ? The reason I ask is because the FX5 is a beast at mechanical filtration . I personally know that 17 Fronts can do a lot of pooping . If you let that FX5 go too long before cleaning .....it will become incredibly gunkie. This gunk will become a Nitrate factory which leads to poor water quality . Fronts can be pretty sensitive to poor water quality . I'm gonna say that you either have a filter that needs to be cleaned or you may have aggression issues . Even though your Fronts are still young.....they will still jockey for position.

Btw.....you will also want to add more oxygen to your tank while you treat with the Pimafix . It has been said that Pimafix and Melafix with deplete your tank of some oxygen .

Question, did u take out any carbon u had when u dosed the tank. If not the dosing was pointless. Post a picture or few pics of the tank and fish so we know what to see and can better evaluate your issue. What kind of decor do u have ? Fronts are skiddish sometimes and may scape against sharp rocks. With the added aggression from others it could turn into a fin infection.
