I don't know if Roy mentioned it yet, but I guess I'm finally ready to talk about it, I have been so bummed...
We woke up one morning last week to most of the fish in our Tanganyikan tank dead. All of the Cyps except one juvie... And our female goby, and the one goby fry we left in there. *heart breaks*
The male goby made it, as well as two petricolas and all of the multifaciatus, including the two new batches of multie fry.
As for what happened, we still don't know for sure. Even after an immediate 60% W/C, the test kit showed some ammonia and nitrates at 80ppm or so...we had just done water changes on all the tanks in the house except Suki's the day before. And no issues in the other tanks, so it wasn't the water. No signs of aggression on the bodies, either.
We're guessing maybe a gas pocket from underneath the rock piles, then chain-reaction deaths, maybe...double sigh. Who knows.
I've never had such a huge wipeout before, it just kills me we lost so many, and so quick. And my female goby!! Right after we got them breeding... My poor babies. :(
Oh well, I know we'll get the tank back to a thriving community eventually, and at least everything else made it. Just hurts to lose them, we loved those fish.
