  • White spots on clown loaches

I've had em several weeks. One died yesterday and I saw small white spots on the others. Any ideas ? Have no med tank so all would have to be treated.

Do a 50% water change and add Epsom salt or aquarium salt at the rate of 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water, bump the temp up to 86 degrees for 5 days. This should kill all the parasites and eggs off. Than do another 50% water change after 5 days, Always keep clown loaches at a temp of at least 80- 84 degrees, they like it warm, and do 50% water changes weekly. Make sure you set up a quaranteen tank in the future. If you add any fish to your main tank put them in a quarunteen tank for 2 weeks before introducing them into your main tank. Be very care adding any fish directly to your tank, especially from a chain stores.
Good Luck! If you follow these directions, It should help with the Ich issues.

Just did a 50 and upped heater to 86. I heard salt does more harm than good to clown loaches?

If they have ich you need to cure them, if you are worried than just add 1/2 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water. Even at 1 tablespoon per 10 it will not hurt them. The warm water and salt will kill the parasites it will not harm the clown loaches, at that amount. Just remember you only need to add salt once, the only way to remove salt is through water changes, it does not evaporate. By doing two 50% water changes within two weeks of the 5 day treatment you will essentially remove the salt.
