Dead heaters..

So I came home and noticed my 40g tank noone in the tank cared to move...
I noticed that the filter was not going so well, and I figured I better clean it.
I feed the fish removed the filter cleaned it and when I put the filter back in the tank I realized quickly what the problem was...
The water was FREEZING COLD....  I was thinking damn now I know why my fish where all sitting on the bottom and didnt want to eat...
I grabbed the heater and as soon as I touched as I simultaneously unplug it I noticed a split second before my hand made it to the cord that as I touched the heater that a bright light was emitted from it like it blew up.  1 second later I had it unplugged and into the trash can.  Never again will I buy a cheap heater just because I didnt want to spend the money on the better one.  

Drove immediately to Petsmart and got myself a Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth which I have in all of my tanks except for the 40..
I used Petsmart's website printed out their $19.99 200w Stealth heater and went to the store and bought it for $19.99 instead of the $34.95 they had it advertised in the store.   They jack up the prices good there.

Okie so now my tank is slowly heating up from the 69.6 degree's I found it at.

I hope my fish will not be pissed at me for long.

oh zu.....i'm sorry your little friends had to endure that.....but i certainly know what you mean...
hope they'll be okay....and of course they won't hold a grudge...they know who feeds and takes care of them....

Reason why I don't cheap out when I have spent so much on my little babies.


On a side note....if they were lethrgic feeding would only add to the problems.....excess/uneaten foods, newly cleaned filter,lethargic fish = dead fish.

Yeah I know about the filter etc .... I am going to give them a water change tomorrow when things settle down again :)
And I am picking up an extra filter from Mike tomorrow or Sunday and when I get it home I am going to take the seeded filter from the 58 and install it on the 40 (which had the failed heater) and add the new 2215 onto the 58 which already has a seeded Penguin 400
