    Re: Is my puff sick?

and on my previous statement about clout.. i was wrong. i found this on pufferresources.net

    Clout
Specifically formulated for Freshwater and Saltwater aquariums.
Effective against a wide variety of parasitic and protozoan infestations.
Does not affect pH and is safe for biological systems.
Since 95% of aquatic problems are parasitic and protozoan, Clout is the perfect choice! On most parasite cases, Clout cures within 48 hours. Clout's cures typical outbreaks within 72 hours, but Clout's unique formula is also safe for multiple treatments when treating extreme outbreaks & won't cause stress or harm fish.

I just ordered pond clout. 2,000 gallons worth for $23

If you want some clout that you can start using now, let me know. I have some.

I'd love some, Brownsnoutuk also offered some. Who's closer to the woodlands?

              Re: Is my puff sick?

I just happened across this article - it speaks specifically of parasites on GSP puffers.  I've never heard of the medication but then again I never looked for it.  The site is refering to GSP's - brackish, but I imagine the medication would be safe in FW also.

                Re: Is my puff sick?

Well i've cleared out most of the substrate in the tank. cleaned the prefilter of the canister. put the sponge filter on the intake again.. He showed some activity as I cleaned. it actually looked like he wanted to swim but was too heavy to move. his little fins were working as hard as he could. flicked his tail once or twice and gave up... went back to sitting on the bottom.. His color is still good, and while he was swimming looked really good..

We've all heard of fish, especially puffers, having issues with being TOO buoyant.. anyone heard of them not being buoyant enough?

So you cleaned all your filters and wiped out all your substrate?

                    Re: Is my puff sick?

I'm keeping an eye on ammonia. don't worry. I've added half the substrate back and only cleaned half the filter. I also have live plants in the tank.

I bought more pots and have a more elaborate project in mind for them. When the crypts in the bottom grow in they should look good. but i don't think they will get enough light or co2

I have had crypts with no CO2 for years... I think you'll be okay there. How is the Mbu doing? Are you treating him with anything?

He was more enthusiastic as i was cleaning. but still not coming up to eat. now that the bottom of the tank is clean I can see no worms/parasites to confirm our suspicions.

I've had bad luck with mbu's. I think over feeding had a lot to do with it. I think they get clogged easily. I'ts so fun watching them devour crawfish. epsom salt may help. I hate to see those cute little puppies hurtin.
