Re: bright green algea in my brackish tank
If it wasn't for your puffers, nerite snails, goodieds, and flagfish are excellent consumers of algae that would do well in brackish water.PLECOS SUCK!

Re: bright green algea in my brackish tank
Looks to me like you've got cyanobacteria. Yuck.
Remove as much as you can manually, and if you can somehow point the pump's output toward the majority of the stuff, I've heard circulation helps. When all else fails, try some erythromycin."Millennium hand and shrimp!"

You can also try to suck it up with just the hose of the python/gravel vac. It comes up pretty easily, actually. Although you might not get all of it, it would help."Millennium hand and shrimp!"

Re: bright green algea in my brackish tank
Well, it's an antibiotic, so just like when humans take it, the doctor always tells you to finish the course of meds, not just take a few doses. Just follow the instructions on the bottle and you should be fine. The treatment usually consists of about 4 doses, with water changes in between some doses.
Not sure if the bottle will specifically say it's for treating cyano, but it works. With the puffers, you might want to lessen the dose just a little bit."Millennium hand and shrimp!"

Re: bright green algea in my brackish tank
E-mycin will definitely do the trick.
I get my from Luis at Florida's guppies plusE-mycin
1 bottle should last you a lifetime.
Like Mzungu said, remember to keep treating for a few days even after the green has disappeared to make sure you didn't leave any to develop immunity to the antibiotics.
Be careful though.. it may kill your biofilter also. Keep watch on your ammonia and nitrItes. If it crashes, it may be good tohave some biospira on hand.
Treatment & dosage has been discussed before in this tread:
