Hole in head

Just saw that one of my beloved Yellow Fins  has what appears to be a hole in his head. I dont feed live food and every other fish looks perfect. He is with my fronts.

any thoughts or ideas???


I am concerned and dont know if I should move him out.

Are you sure it's Hole in the Head?  I think you can treat it with Metro, but I'd be sure that's what it was before treating since Metro is a pretty hardcore medicine.  Is the fish being stressed out?

i remmember a lot of oscars gettin hole in the head. i think the only thing we got to work to treat it was hex-a-mit. but i havent ever used metro so it might work as well. if you do treat would be much easier if you moved fish to smaller treatment tank. cheaper on pocket for medicine use, and less stress on the healthy fish.

Don't confuse Hole in Head with Hexamita. Though often found together, they are different diseases with different symptoms. Metronidazole is excellent for hole in the head and is added straight to the water. This medication also treats hexamita, but treats best when mixed with food.

My guy is happy or appears to be happy and is moving around fine. Just noticed a place on his head that looks like a big cist. It doesnt look like when an oscar gets a hole in its head.  I will abbsolutely move him out to treat as I cannot risk any of the fronts.   Just very concerning. I will takesome pictures on thursday when I get back in so there can be more and better discussion.
