My daughter got a black moor (goldfish) about a week ago and I put it in the quarantine tank. It developed white spots so I put salt in the tank and upped the temp to 80 degrees.
Water parameters 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, and 5 nitrates. No other inhabitants, except some snails.
Anyhow, the fish lost it's left fin and the whole area turned white and kinda fungus-y looking. I assume it was fin rot and the fish got worse very quickly, in fact it died overnight. This was over a period of 3 days. First day white spot, second day missing fin, third day dead. My question is, what should I do about the quarantine tank? Partial water change? Full water change? Scrub the heck out of it? I am not sure if this is a contagious disease. I know if it is fin rot it is bacterial but unsure how it is transmitted. I've never had anything like this happen.
