Well my babies are at the lfs, they said they will hold them until I make a decision on what to do. The company that made my tank went out of business so there is no warranty and I don't believe the insurance comapny will cover it. They have an Oceanic that will fit my stand, actually two, between $650-$750. But the warranty wouldn't be any good unless I buy the stand. I'm really starting to lean to "no more tanks" decision.
Aren't those Odeysea products simply poorly constructed chinese rip-offs of branded goods? I hate to blast my own people.. but Chinese ripoffs suck.
If you need to dry your floor and carpet quick, your best bet an industrial dehumidifier which you can rent at your local big box hardware store and a big fan to circulate the air.
That equipment dried up my ike soaked carpet in 48 hrs.
I hope you wont' let this setback turn you away from the hobby.
Do they still call them Odyssea, even? I have one similar, and so, I think, does FishLady, though mine is just 100 gallons, and I'm glad of it. It's a risk, I know, especially upstairs, but the darn thing is pretty. I took a lot of time shimming mine, etc, because it seemed to have a corner that didn't make perfect contact with the top of the stand. Kind of creepy scenario and I was timid about filling it up all the way at first. <knock> It's been fine. Sort of lost track how long it's been set up.
I bet I'm not the only one who's had dreams of bursting fishtanks, though ! I swear when I retire, I'm going to choose my two (maybe 3) setups and just stick to those. ...maybe a pond, too?
Ok, I did it! I called the lfs and ordered a replacement tank. I thought about this and thought about it, I can't give up Elvis and he's going to need a bigger home soon so here we go. My sweet loving husband suprised me two nights ago with a check for a new tank. The tank that I want is out of stock but I should have it in about 3 weeks. I was planning to move Elvis in Feb. but he will be moved the weekend that I get the new tank. Then I should have a good couple of years before I have to go larger. This will give me a little time to find his final home. I also contacted someone for a Fahaka to be put in Elvis' old tank. Looks like Nick's Fahaka is staying with him. Houston was too far to drive for a fish napping. This was something I have been pondering for a few months now. Should I sell my cichlids and get a fahaka or should I keep my cichlids. Given what has happened I decided to go with a fahaka. With the broken tank it's going to make the move easier. I just want to thank everyone for putting up with my depression and helping me through this. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. And many many thanks to my loving husband for putting up with me. Like he said I wouldn't be complete without my fish. And as always he is right. What would I do without my babies or him. Don't answer that Ek! (Ek thinking....she would probally get fat and lazy while watching the nature channel all day eating chocolate and drinking beer. ) Anyway if you got a private message from me and then it was deleted that's because I was going to ask you about a tank that you had in the fish market. I apologize. I decided to use the stand I already have and go with an Oceanic tank that will fit my odd stand. I realize it won't have a warranty, but one day maybe in the not so near future I will get the stand.
Looks like I'm going to have lots of work to do when this thing comes in. Anybody wanna help? :signhelp:
Edmlfc... I would run to Lowes and get a styrofoam sheet and install it under the tank so it will be even.
This way you can always let the manufacture know when they ask about warranty that its been sitting on Styrofoam.
What size tank are you getting ?
The I went to T&T Fish and Reptile on Hwy6 @ Bellaire the other day and they have one of Marineland's MONSTER 300g tanks on display in his store.
72 x 36 x 27 with the starphire front glass, and dual corner over flows in it. This would be the last tank you would ever need for Elvis :)
Here is the problem Tank with overflow pipes included - $1800,- add a stand to it and it comes to $3400.-
What fish do Jesper have 180 WC T. Moorii Chilambo +1 Petro trewavasae.
110 Cyps, WC Xeno Spilopterus Kipili WC/F1/F2 T. sp red Kiku

This is still going to be a temporary home, but I'm hoping to have at least 12-18 months before an upgrade. He's about 9" right now and he's not growing really really fast. The tank he's in is a 120-125 gallon and the new tank is going to be 156 gallons (Oceanic). But the dim. are 60.5 X 24.5 X 25, which will give him plenty of turning room. I'm hoping for a good two years with him in the new tank. I'll see what his growth rate will be once he moves. I have had him for 8 months and he has only grown about 3". I would have gone with the larger tank here are the reasons I didn't do it.
1)We are planning to move in the next year or two. If I wait I'll have room for an 8 footer. Where we are now we just don't have the room.
2) I have a perfectly good stand and it would have cost me another $700-$800 or more to get a stand and tank combo.
3) Yes I could have waited to do this but my plan before my tank broke was to move Elvis into the now broken tank, put a Fahaka or my Cichlids into the 120. Then start saving to upgrade Elvis to a 250+ (tank, stand & equipment) then move the Fahaka or Cichlids to the 160 (broken tank) and make the 120 a planted tank, then sell the 90G or if possible use the 90 as a sump for Elvis' new tank to save a little money.
I have been thinking about this since Sunday. I have decided to replace the tank and stick to the orignal plan. If something happens to prevent my plan, then I will be donating Elvis to a local aquarium for him to live out is life in luxury.
I was going to ask about this: I would run to Lowes and get a styrofoam sheet and install it under the tank so it will be even. Glad you mentioned it. I'm also going to get some eggcrate for the inside just incase of rocks falling. I have the eggcrate in his tank now but it's cut to fit that tank. I think I'm just going to replace it rather than trying to cut more to fit the new tank. What does the styrofoam look like and which department would I find it in? Eggcrate-lighting, bulkheads-plumbing, styrofoam-?????.
One more question: The new tank is Oceanic, is it true that if you don't use their stand the warranty is void?
Most tank makers will tell you if you have styrofoam under the tank (it makes the tank sit even on the flood/stand) that, that is good enough for warranty work.
The other issue is you show up at the store with your tank and say yes its sitting on an oceanic stand... what are they going to say ? no its not because you didnt bring your stand with you to the store to have it looked at ?

At lowes, the styrofoam can be found just about where the lumber starts. It's kinda on one side of the aisle, and lumber starts (with plywood) right across from it. It comes in varying thicknesses, and in 4' x 8' sheets, and also a type that is folded up accordion style adn is light blue in color. It's kinda thin, but decently dense, althought I wouldn't use it on anything larger than a 20L. I didn't see any 48 x 12 sheets, but maybe I was't looking where Zulaab found those.
A tip on cutting it - a strip of masking tape where you'll be cutting it keeps it from crumbling while cutting. You'll have to leave the tape on though when finished because it will pull chunks of styro along with it if you try and remove it. The sharper the blade you cut it with, the cleaner your cut will be.
