    Re: Cloudy water, fish dying

I have seen outside tanks get a massive death after the mosquito man comes around in his truck and sprays for mosquito's on a closed tank.    Fish are sensitive when it comes to chemicals even in small doses

    What fish do Jesper have
180 WC T. Moorii Chilambo +1 Petro trewavasae.
    110
Cyps, WC Xeno Spilopterus Kipili WC/F1/F2 T. sp red Kiku
    58 S. Decorus

I also recently detached my DIY carbon from the powerhead a week or two back,....but I am pretty sure the extensive cleaning I did to the sponge plus too big a water change just through the system off balance.  Could be wrong, but there isn't any chems in my one bedroom apt.  I even checked with the leasing office to see if they did anything and they haven't.  The female angel, a zebra otto, and a tetra (don't care) are the only casualties, so I got off good.  The rest of the community is fine and the water is clear.

The male is surviving in the QT tank,...doesn't have the normal appetite and haven't seen him eat but he is displaying normal behavior and the parts of his skin that was slightly damaged is healing.  Still, I am going to probably give the fish to Cameo, whom I purchased the fish from 2 years ago, that way it doesn't have to be alone and I know it is in good care with other black angels to be around.

Thanks for all the input.  I don't think the male would be alive if it weren't for the help here.

        Re: Cloudy water, fish dying

Clarity issue has popped up again.

I did a 20% water change and a water test with an old strip:

        NO3 - 20 fine
        NO2 - 0 fine
        gh - 75 fine
        kh- 300 high
        ph - 8.0+ high

The fish seem fine and I added an internal filter with new carbon this morning.  I am running a sponge filter with a DIY carbon in the powerhead, and the bottles are only a week or two old and blowing carbon bubbles.  My concern is that the water is very alkaline.

So should I do another water change to help the clarity?  I also read about using a water clarifier.  Flocculates? article: http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/wa...loudywater.htm

The fish seem fine but I dunno why I can't get the water conditions normal.  Would a water change help or hurt?  I have also put in stress zyme to promote beneficial bacteria.

i just believe you don't have enough filtering on this tank for this issue to come again so soon....
do you have like a ehiem 2215 canister on there?.....that's what i would have plus a powerhead/prefilter and an emperor 280 hob.....that's what i would have on there.....

You are right.  With the interal in there the water cleared up.  But now I have this ugly internal filter in my planted tank.  When I setup the tank, I didn't allow room between the wall for a HOB.  Never used a can before.  The powerhead/sponge isn't getting the same power out of it that it once had.  I should probably take it apart and clean it and hope the motor isn't worn down.
