now i know why i was losing fish, besides the crab, i was doing some ammonia test on my tanks and everything was cool. nice and yellow, meaning 0. but when i tested a fresh sample out of my tap, yikes!!!!!! man it was darker green then my little chart had on it,meaning higher than 8. man ive been using this crapp for my coffee and cookin. we dont drink it because it tasted funny, i just thought it was it because it had alot of iron in it, oh ya its well water. my question to yall is , is this amount of ammonia dangerouse to people :signhelp: :!:

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

thanks pp, it talks manely about comercial strength ammonia. i dont no what an 8 on the test kit is compared to the percentages they were talking about. i worked on rail cars for awhile and have been exposed to some high concetration stuff. i just didnt know if taking small amounts internaly was bad. god i hope not. i'm outa this hole in the wall soon anyway 8O

8ppm+ that is high...
Well crazybettaman -- I have one word for you.. CARBON FILTER for your water supply.
I am right now thinking about how to get one of those big carbon filters made so I dont have to use tap water without filtration before it enters into my tanks..
I am thinking about creating a 10ft long 4" wide pipe version cut in half (so the water is double polished) and then adding a hose that will reach all of my tanks.
Maybe you should start thinking about the same.

Re: man! that comes out of my faucet!!!!!
thats a good idea, right now im just started useing a homemade .......... well i call it a speedy cycler. because i can bring the ammonia levels down to nothin in less than three days. in use a home made bubble filter that cycles the water through already established aquarium gravel and on top of that i use the stuffing out of a cheap pillow. whith in 24 hrs there is already a bacterial culture growing in the stuffin. it a nice brown. on the third day i check it and its alright. my main concern was consuming this crap for the last 4 yrs!!!! sorry i get wordy after being up to late

Re: man! that comes out of my faucet!!!!!
It will still help some.
I would also look into using Kordon's Amquel+plus and NovaAqua+plus in the meantime. I swear by the stuff and while members here in Houston are losing fish due to water problems using Seachem Prime I haven't notice nothing.700g Mini-Monster tank

Re: man! that comes out of my faucet!!!!!
at the garden center. soak it in water and test for nitrates. if it has nitrates don't use it. some has ferilizer added. Get a carbon filter your water is poison! you can get a phosphate reacter. get the 4 1/2 x 17 kent. fill it with black diamond. just slow down the fill so water has a lot of contact with carbon. go ahead and use your dechlorinator untill you can test for chlorine.200
