Some live food would be cheaper in houston like larva from bloodsuckers. and snails will breed in just about anything and they are free then too, great for puffers, but what i have found is no one can have snails keep up with their puffers. i gues if you had like 20 snail tanks for 1 puffer   . i would like to know what people are feeding their mosquito larva to. is it safe for my Tang tank. or should i stay clear. the reasons to feed live are several. it may not be required for fish to breed but it can deffiantely encourage it. plus the higher protein levels of live food often help keep constant breeders healthy. plus there is one big big reason people feed live. Its cool. how many people get oscars or lionfish or groupers (for the salt people) just to watch them eat. we love watching the fish kill things. it brings out the tiny beast    thats why feeders will always sell.

Live food is more trouble/effort than flakes but with guppies the growth rate, fins and drops of fish fed live foods are bigger. The fish are more robust and healthy as well.

I'd say it's safe for your tang tank...malaria is pretty rampant in Africa...lots of mosquitos.

So what does mosquito larvae look like? I have always tried to keep water away from my house, so I have never noticed anything in the water . . . but then again I wasn't looking either!

They swim jerkily, if that's a word. If you tap or bump standing water and they're in there, you'll know it b/c they all should swim to the bottom. I hate them, but my fish go crazy, so what am I to do?

Oh, absolutely! All you really need to do is fill up a container with water and set it outside. When I had a backyard, I'd net them out about twice a week, to make sure they didn't grow up.  :)

We've got mosquitos breeding here right now! LOL I'm pretty sure there's no off-season.

yeah no off season at all in houston (yeah swampland) but the reason i asked about the tang's is i know a lot of people dont feed blood worms, which i thought was a type of bloodsucker larva because of malawi bloat.

Did you know that if you are an allergic person, you should be very cautious using bloodworms. They can cause pretty serious reactions. I haven't tried them at all because I am allergic to so many things, and I'm not taking a chance!

i've gotten pretty good rashes from them at work. even got some on my face and eye once. not pretty
