just found this.
notice the last sentence on TIPS.
Keep total ammonia levels to less than 1 ppm and any nitrIte to less than 1 ppm as otherwise the high levels will suppress the growth of the nitrospira bacteria converting the nitrIte into nitrAte.Last edited by fshfrk; 04-08-2009, 12:24 PM.200

How much ammonia are you adding ? I would add no more than like 10 drops total to the tank each day by now. Your Nitrites are WAY above 5.0 if they have not budged, you just cannot read it. I would slow down the amount of ammonia so you will slow the production of Nitrites being created. You need to give it time to stop. (somewhere in the above messages.. Not going to stop. just not going to let the nitrItes get above 1.0ppm. so yea got to cut back on ammonia to probably just 2-3ml for this tank. maybe get a drip dosing system. add the 2-3ml of ammonia and water to it. let it drip in the sump over 24 hrs. test and adjust. Just added one of those goldfish and it disolved. just kidding. now I got to go do some serious w/c to get this down.Last edited by fshfrk; 04-08-2009, 04:15 PM.200

Did 3 -65% w/c last night and got nitrItes down to 1ppm. added 2ml ammonia. Will test in a little bit.200

Looking good.. I would stop with the ammonia now and let the starter fish from your 300 hit the tank with another big water change in a few days. Then the ammonia will keep going and you will not have any problems.
