Good Luck with what you decide to do.

The bubbles didnt exist until I filled it up...and maybe they dont actually get much bigger, as they are just more noticeable...turn a more white color....and as I let it sit a while the seams look like more bubbles had appeared, although very tiny....maybe the size of the tip of a needle. I will post some more pics today after I fill it and let it sit a few hours.

I REALLY want this to be okay...I am planning an awesome discus display with branches, stumps, and low lighting....but I dont want to spring a leak while I'm gone at work or in the middle of the night (when these things tend to happen) and find a bunch of dead discus and a flooded livingroom...that would really be bad.

I appreciate everyones input...seems like some think its okay and others feel quite the opposite.

Oh, and whats with the trim? Does that really make a difference? It doesnt seem structural at all and many people have taken off the trim on their big tanks with no problem...Dan at HAW has a few on display that look excellent....as well as other members here on the box. If I had any doubt that it was an intergral piece of the tank I would have left it on....I hope I didnt make a big mistake.

I was just saying to put the trim back on if you were going back to the company that did the work in the first place. I to like the trimless look, esp on a discus tank. Either way good luck!! I hope it does hold for you. I just like going to bed at night knowing that the tank will still be going strong 10 years down the road.

Has been filled with water for a few hours now...There is no visible bowing. I also measured the glass, its 1/2 an inch thick. I heard these old oceanics could take a blast from a rocket launcher.

I took a few pics of what I think are the worst seams...I also made sure the tank was level front to back and side to side...its dead level right now.

I guess I'll let is sit for a few days...and if she holds I'll go ahead and start painting the background. MHX just got back from a local aquarium store and said the big tanks there also had the same bubbles...and his 125g has it too...so I guess its normal after all. I just know my glasscages.com 5ft, 85 gallon doesnt have any bubbles at all, and also has a thicker bead of silicone between the glass.

Please speak up if you have experience with aquariums and dont think this looks safe. Thanks again to all.

I had an Oceanic 65 that leaked; I could see no bubbles in the leaking seam. It was 15+yr old and had been moved several times. It was interesting that it had not been moved for about 2 yr when it started leaking.
Rounded voids (bubbles) are not nearly as much of a concern for structural materials as cracks; There are some situations where a hole is drilled at the tip of a crack to stop its growth (eg, aluminum sheet metal).
If you are creative ; you could write for a grant of federal stimulus money to study the situation- an accurate gage (to measure more precisely than 0.001" ) could let you know if there is any growth. I guess the basis of the grant is that there could be catastrophic environmental impact to the ecosystem living in the tank.

Really horrible job of putting that tank together.
But it looks like you have enough seal on there to hold.
That plastic trim is garbage, only plus is that it is a buffer when reaching over the top of the tank with rocks and stuff.

I agree about the trim....I like the trimless look much better than the fake wood plastic crap that used to be there.

The tank seams looked good when I picked it up, if a bit over done....but after I filled it is when it started getting bubbles...I cant help but think sitting empty in a garage under a crate for almost two years wasnt good.

I do feel better about this now....and Ill feel even better if it hasnt leaked by the end of the week....

Well after a week the tank is looking good and holding water, no leaks at all. However after careful consideration with the wife I have decided to take a loss on the tank....it has a very slight haze in a few places and a few too many scratches to be my display tank and center piece of my livingroom. Other wise the tank is awesome and would be perfect for someone looking for a big tank on a budget. The scratches are mostly near the bottom and back if the tank, and they are almost invisible when water is in the tank. I was going to paint the back of the tank and these small imperfections would never be seen..

I am not selling the stand.

Asking $450 for the tank only....come pick it up and take a look, its holding water now. After today Im going to post on craigslist, so fishboxers get first dibs!

                    Thanks,

                    Matt

FYI the last 210 I sold was for $275, and it was in very good shape.

Congratulations! Someone got an amazing deal...I have been looking for a 7ft 210 for over a month now and the options are very limited unless buying new. I certainly didnt see any for $275.

I just paid $900 for this 7ft. Oceanic tank and stand last week. I would like to get some of it back if possible. Im not in any hurry to sell it...and Im buying a new tank tomorrow.

Other offers will be considered...and I posted this here first to show I have nothing to hide. I will make another for sale post with pics tonight when I get home from work.
