  • pluging drain hole...

so i got my 6ft 150g tank, but it has a drain hole on the bottom, i am thinking about pluging it up, what would be the best way?

under ther tank = bulkead - pvc pipe - slip / threaded coupling - threaded pvc plug. use new glue and primer and lots of pipe tape on the theads then make sure to let it sit a day or two.
    25g - Reef
    3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

if its just a hole with no bulkhead you can silicone a small piece of glass on top.

PVC plug. U can use silicon instead of PVC glue just in case someone wanted tobtakebit off later

I'd remove the bulkhead if it was easy enough to do...and go with the small piece of glass or small bathroom tile and silicone it to the bottom kfrom the inside....the water pressure will keep it in place...

I wouldnt close it up with a glass because if you ever decide to use it or want to sell it. It will be hard to remove with out damaging it. I would use the PVC plug or threaded plug. On my 90G I just got a PVC cap and put it into the bulkhead.

Something else to think about too.....if you did leave the bulkhead in the tank, you could use the bulkhead as a drain plug, if you made some easy modifications to it...

It really boils down to just how much time and effort you want to spend on this hole....silicone and a piece of tile will take about 5 minutes to apply...

I kinda like the idea of having a drain hole in the tank for emergency clean up or whatever....

                Your choice....have fun with it....

Naah a 20g will work well for a sump. It all comes down to how you set it up. I have less than a 20g as my sump for my 110, and it works fine. When setting it up you just have to be aware of how much to fill up the tank and sump on the first run and then you are set for life.
