Yeah dude, this is going to be a one off fry basket for my boy. Lexan is stronger and better. Go big or go home. Trying to think of a way I can have water flow also. Designing it right now and letting Aeroglass handle the cutting and polished edges.

I use tupperware baskets with drilled holes in them to keep fry. On each side of the basket I tie fishing line and floating devices to it so the basket just sits and floats in the tank. It takes me anywhere from 30 mins to an hour to drill all those little holes with this power drill I got. I drill around 200 holes to get good water flowing in and out of the basket.

So one day, I'm making a new one and decided to take it to Jim's and show off. Got to his house and busted out while we were chillin in his garage drinking beer.

I pulled it out like, "BAM, foo look at this!!!!!"

Dude looked at me like I was retarded and said, "you know I can drill those holes in like 3 seconds right?"

I immediately walk to my car with my head down and drove home.
Thai was so proud of it! And I just crushed his feelings. LOL! I am a machinist, I drill holes and make cool stuff all day long. So 1000 holes would only take me 1000 seconds to make. Poor Thai over here popping holes one by one following a grid.

My feelings are crushed as well. It takes me 1-2 hours to make a diy floating nursery to hold my little F1 moba babies. They say you got to have the right tools.

When you make your lexan container, consider a few things:

-a flap on top for daily feeding big enough to put your hand through. The container bottom gets gunk and film on it so I stick my hand inside and use my fingers to clean the bottom every few days.

-a removable top that can allow for a thorough cleaning of the container but that can be secure enough not to open inside the tank.

-instead of using fishing line to keep the container positioned where you want it, consider using magnets to hold the container in place.

-drilling holes at least 1/2 down the container to get good water flow.

-making the container height tall enough for good volume, but not too tall that won't allow the container to easily be removed from the tank, especially tanks with glass covers. I think 5"-5.5" is the max height on my containers.

-not making the container too deep either. When there is uneaten food or gunk in the bottom, I turn the container on it's side and tap it letting the food and gunk drop down and out of the side holes.

These are just a few items I've considered lately because I want to convert to acrylic containers that are drilled out with magnet attachments. I don't get to enjoy the blue coloring on my moba fry since the rubbermaid plastic sides are not clear. I don't think you need anymore waterflow through the container other than what the holes can provide (so lots of holes is good). The fry are pretty fragile so I like to keep the water current very low at the bottom of the container.

Congrats on your tumbler.........looks awesome. I've got 20 F1 moba fry in mine right now.

Keep us posted on the floating nursery you're planning to make.

Will do Ron. The design is done, thanks for the extra ideas. Since I'm only going to make one, I'm going all out. Scratching the flow idea, just adding more holes. What do you think about holes on the bottom panel?

No.........would not recommend that for 2 reasons...........you don't want other fish nipping at the bottom trying to get at the fry, especially a sleeping fry. Also, you want the food to be able to stay on the bottom and not fall through. Even when I feed through the flap, some of my NLS Thera A pellets floats out of the side holes....not many, but some.

Only going to make 1..............if this nursery comes out half as good as I think it will, I'll be sending you my measurements and some money!!!!!!! :) :) :)

You know how I feel Ron!

We basically have the exact same fry basket. I use a power drill and it's still takes a long time......compared to Jim!

I can assure you this thing will be bad to the bone. Ok so no holes on the bottom. No holes at water line to hold pellets and add a good lid w/ finger holes aka feeding holes. Lid will be tinted or smoked to protect the fry from sun burn. I'm kinda iffy about using magnets to hold it to the glass, Thai drinks a lot and may not release it from the glass while doing wc, disaster in the making.

                      Yup!

That's why I just let them float man!

Let them be free and float around.

Get it straight bro, 75g divided into 4, each drilled w/ over flows into a wet dry. LOL!
