  • Cheap Easy Basic DIY Canopy

Heres how i built my canopy for my 75 gallon. Its basic and simple for 30$. If you need it taller to fit lights then substitute 1x8 for 1x6. Like i said its cheap and basic. Just make sure you measure rim of tank and how much clearance you need for lights.

    shopping list includes
    (1) 6' of 1x2 plank
    (2) 6' of 1x6 plank
    (1) 10' of 1x12 plank The diagram says 1x10 (my mistake but its 1x12)
    (2) reg hinges
    (2) cedar chest hinges
    screws
this is for 75 gallons. smaller tanks less supplies and less cost. Always measure twice b4 cutting!

10$ bet included will bring the total price of the canopy to the 20$ range. sweet! I would probably spend it on a 6 pack of irish reds.

What length screws did you use?

I couldn't really tell you the screw length (thats to personal) It was just what i had lying around. I can tell you when you start to drill the holes for the hinge screws use a piece of 1x2 to drill through. This will keep your drill bit from coming out the other side of the wood. Also make sure tour not putting screws through the front. doesn't look good with screw heads sticking out in the front.

For connecting face frame and other cabinet boxes, a #8 ProMaster flat head screw with sawtooth threads works well. The sawtooth threads help the screw cut its way into the wood and increase holding power
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
