  • Painting the back/sides of a 10g

i have a friend that wants to paint his 10g tetra tank with a light blue background.

the problem is, we cant find the color he is wanting to use or even something close in krylon fusion.

the exact color he wants to use we have found in a regular spray paint, it is however dual coverage.

it says it works on alot of surfaces.

he insists on using spray paint.

    my questions are:

1.) will any spray paint work?

2.) is pretty much any spray paint safe for fish?
cause i know people who use krylon on backgrounds and diy overflows which go inside the tank are sometimes spray painted.

3.) if nobody messes with it, and he keeps it dry, (well, as dry as a fish tank can stay with wc's and such) how long should the paint stay intact?

    thanks in advance,

    Brian

I've never had a paint fail. Just make very sure there are no oils or grease on the glass. Wipe it with alcohol before painting. Of course, since glass is a slick surface, the adhesion won't be perfect, but mine always withstand normal handling just fine. And that is will all kinds of paint. Never even tried Fusion. With a light color, you will have some degree of translucency, so make sure that the coatings are even.

I keep my breeder tanks all in a row with the glass in between painted for privacy.
I prefer to use a pint can of laytex paint which they will make in any color.
I apply it with a disposable 3" wide roller, usually 2 coats with 6 hrs between coats.
HOB filters and handling eventually scratch the paint, but I have the can on the shelf and a touch-up is quick & easy.

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

any spray paint will work . you can put a sealer on to pfor precaution. I just painted 6 20longs and a 15 with latex paint. Waiting for it to dry. I put a coat of black spray paint on top to harden it and make the inside color brighterIt won't harm your fish since it is on the outside
