This is the overflow hose from under the tank, the top half is behind the tank (above the stand) so there wasn't enough light to get a good pic, not to mention getting behind the tank. And as for the bottom part, it doesn't have the stainless steel collar because I ran out and used aquarium caulk, no problems so far.And that was over a year ago. phone pics 004.jpg
I tried to use a T connector and a ball valve to let some air escape, but no luck. I will try using the ball valve stright on the output and see what happens next. Just the water rushing down is loud. Should it be release below the water line or on top of the water line??
Ditch the T connector. the usual sweet spot is a few inches below the waterline. or if you have some filter media that stays above the waterline, just on top of that. anything above always has the chance to splash, and thats more noise. Ever since i've gone to a ball valve on both return and overflow, the only thing you hear in my tank is a skimmer, and thats barely because it comes with a very good silencer. if you are more than 4 feet away from my tank, you'd never know it was there if you faced the opposite direction.
