Project Mouse Trap:
When the cat’s away, the mice will play. (The wife is out of town)
As some may know I have been designing a new build for my 110 gal tall. While talking with a friend he said he had a 110 gal long he could not use in his new apartment and I could have it for cheap if I would pick it up. So on the way home Thursday I picked up a new tank with all accessories, including Fluval 404, .stand, and lights
Once I got home I striped the tank down and cleaned it and hatched out a design plan, tested the filter, and determined what parts I wanted to replace.
Next I placed the filter intake/return, and laid out my egg crate support for the soon to be aquarium scape.
Then I spent the day breaking rocks to small strips and doing a double cleaning cycle to remove any bacteria or foreign growth. This consisted of a 1/10 water bleach soak and then a clean water rise. I used a brush to scrub the rocks during this process.
Getting closer I started to place the strips along the back of the tank building a backdrop. I use an aquarium safe silicone to hold the rocks to each other and to the back glass. I also put in a “love cave”
The almost final step is the placement of plants. Once the silicone has cured I will be filling with water.
It was a long day, but when the wife is out of town I get to do what I want and this is it. I will be working on “Project Pescado” now, but it will take months since I am building everything myself. Hope you like the tank and let me know if you have any comments on design or fish suggestions. I thinking south american cichlids, but not hard set.
