Want to build a 3 x 20g long rack.

I want it for my fry grow out.

I have fry from L. Red Top Hongi, Red Fin Borleyi, Yellow Lab. x Red Zebra that are in a 10g for now and they are growing rapidly.

What kind of filtration will be best for a 3 tank set up?

Are you planning on using gravity to do water changes, or a python? If gravity, that bottom tank will take a while to clean . . . escpecially since they are growout tanks. Like the picture.

Honestly, filtration would depend on your budget. sponge filters and power heads would be a cheap means to an end. i'd put java moss in the tank too. You could put your faviorite HOB on there just as easily. I have HOT Magnums on my rack. You don't really have room to hide a wet/dry in there.

For some reason HOB never crossed my mind. GREAT IDEA! Rough day at work today.

I would use double sponge filters. I have done it this way for most of my grow outs. The fry can feed on the food matter that is on the sponge and grow rapidly.
One good air pump is much cheaper to run than 3 HOB filters when you look at hydro cost as well.

I've got a few racks myself and tried various filters over time, but I have to say I like the HOBs best as well. My 10's have Eheim Liberty 150's and my 20's have Whisper 20-40 or Penguin 150's. They all seem to do the trick. I also have gravel filters on my 20's (just because I got those for free with the tanks). But yes, armthehomeless has a point. If you are using gravity to change water, make sure you lift the bottom one up a bit. I learned the hard way!
